TCU Geologist Awarded the Antarctica Service Medal of the United States

Rhiannon Mayne, an assistant professor of geology at Texas Christian University, has been selected to receive the Antarctica Service Medal of the United States of America.

Dr. Mayne spent six weeks in Antarctica from November 2010 to January 2011. She collected more than 1,200 samples of meteorites that had fallen on the Antarctic ice. The meteorites ranged from pea-size to one that was as big as a football.

Dr. Mayne joined the faculty at TCU in 2009. She is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and earned her Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee.
