In Memoriam: Jean Malcolm Holliday (1916-2012)

Jean Malcolm Holliday, who worked as an administrator in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia for 43 years until her retirement in 1981, has died at the age of 95.

For many years she was the only administrator in the office of the dean and was known affectionately as “Dean Jean.” She was in charge of compiling the course catalog, scheduling classes, interviewing prospective students, and determining graduation eligibility.

In 1996, the alumni of the engineering school established an endowed scholarship in her name.
