Debbie Sydow Named President of Richard Bland College

Debbie L. Sydow was named the fourth president of Richard Bland College, a community college in Petersburg, Virginia, that is a branch of the College of William and Mary. When she takes office on July 1, she will become the first woman to serve as president of Richard Bland College. Currently, Dr. Sydow serves as president of Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York.

Dr. Sydow has led Onondaga Community College since 2000. With nearly 13,000 students, it is one of the largest community colleges in the State University of New York system.

A native of Abingdon, Virginia, Dr. Sydow is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. She earned a master’s degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania.
