Barbara Schneider Elected to Lead the American Educational Research Association

Barbara Schneider, the John A Hannah Chair and Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Michigan State University, has been voted president-elect of the American Educational Research Association. She will serve as president-elect for one year before assuming the presidency at the conclusion of the 2013 annual meeting of the association.

Her research focuses on the family, the social context of schooling, and the sociology of knowledge. Dr. Schneider holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from National Louis University in Chicago. She earned a Ph.D. at Northwestern University.
