Dr. Shalala was the president of the University of Miami from 2001 to 2015. During the Clinton administration, Dr. Shalala served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services for eight years. Earlier in her career, she was chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and president of Hunter College of the City University of New York.
Three Women Scholars Appointed to Provost Positions at Colleges and Universities
C. Cybele Raver was named provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Vanderbilt University. Renée T. White will be the next provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the New School in New York City and Linda Essig was appointed provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at CUNY’s Baruch College.

The First Woman Editor in Chief of the Latin American Research Review
Carmen Martínez-Novo, professor at the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Florida, was named the new editor in chief of the Latin American Research Review. She joined the faculty at the University of Florida in 2019 after teaching at the University of Kentucky.
In Memoriam: Ann Snitow, 1943-2019
In 1972, Ann Snitow, co-founded the gender studies program at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She also twice founded gender studies programs at The New School in New York City, where she taught for 30 years.
