In Memoriam: Joan Kain, 1927-2017
oan Kain, who served for 17 years on the biology department faculty at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, held master’s degrees from Marquette University, the University of Northern Arizona, the University of Minnesota, and Macalester College.

Patricia Flatley Brennan, who holds an endowed chair at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was named director of the National Library of Medicine, a division of the National Institutes of Health. The institution is the largest biomedical library in the world.
Mount Mary University President to Step Down in 2017
Eileen Mihm Schwalbach has been president of the university in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, since 2009 and has served on the full-time faculty there since 1997. The university’s undergraduate programs are open only to women and currently enroll about 860 students.
Jean Bartels Is the New Leader of Georgia Southern University
Dr. Bartels assumed the role of interim president of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro on July 20. Since July 2012, Dr. Bartels served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Georgia Southern. She is the former dean of the university’s College of Health and Human Sciences.
