Addressing the Lack of Women in Leadership Positions in Academic Pediatrics
in 2017, women were 35 percent of all physicians in the United States but 63 percent of all pediatricians. Women made up 57 percent of all medical school faculty in pediatrics but were just 35 percent of all full professors in pediatrics and 26 percent of pediatric department chairs.
Boise State University Scholar Named President-Elect of Respiratory Care Society
Samantha Davis, clinical assistant professor in the department of respiratory care at Boise State University in Idaho, has been elected president-elect of the Idaho Society for Respiratory Care for the year 2020. Davis will serve one year as president-elect and then will serve the Idaho Society for Respiratory Care as president for the year 2021.
In Memoriam: Wilhelmina Matilda Reuben-Cooke, 1946-2019
Wilhelmina Reuben-Cooke was a professor of law at the University of the District of Columbia, professor emerita of law at Syracuse University in New York, and one of the first African American students to enroll at Duke University in North Carolina.

The Gender Gap in Household Income in the United States Remains Large
The median income of households headed by a single woman in the United States in 2018 was $45,128. For households headed by a single man in 2018, the median income figure was $61,518. For married-couple families, the median income was $93,684.
Alysia Starkey Named the Leader of Kansas State University Polytechnic in Salina
Dr. Starkey joined the faculty at the Kansas State Polytechnic Campus in 2002. Before being named interim CEO and dean in 2018 she had been serving as a full professor and as associate dean for academics at the Polytechnic Campus.
Woman’s Philanthropy Institute Looks at Nonprofits Dedicated to Women and Girls
The index identified 45,000 U.S. charities that are dedicated to serving primarily women and girls. In 2016, these organizations received a collective total of $6.3 billion in charitable contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations. This was about 1.6 percent of all donations.
In Memoriam: Emily E. Williamson, 1965-2019
Williamson became director of the Child Development Center at the University of Louisiana-Monroe in 2003 and remained in that post until her death. She served as an instructor in family and consumer sciences from 2003 to 2010. She then became an instructor in the School of Education.

Svetlana Jitomirskaya Selected to Receive the Dannie Heineman Prize for Mathematical Physics
Svetlana Jitomirskaya, Distinguished Professor of mathematics at the University of California, Irvine, has been named the 2020 winner of the Dannie Heineman Prize for Mathematical Physics. She is only the second woman to receive the annual prize – and the first to receive it alone, not jointly.

Julie Hoff will serve as dean of the Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing of the University of Oklahoma’s Health Science Center in Oklahoma City.
