Four Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to New Positions

Renee Robinson, professor in the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, has been appointed as the Teaching, Learning and Technology Roundtable Faculty Chair. Robinson joined Seton Hall in 2016 and since that time has served as interim dean of the former College of Communication and the Arts, chair of the department of communication and the arts, as well as director of graduate studies of the master’s degree in communication.

Dr. Robinson holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in education from the University of Houston Victoria. She earned a Ph.D. in education from the University of Memphis.

Penny Castellano was named president of the Emory Healthcare Physician Division, a newly created position, as well as interim director of Emory Clinic. The new role will oversee the alignment of Emory’s outpatient clinics with its 11 hospitals. She will also serve as the physician liaison between Emory Healthcare and Emory University School of Medicine.

Dr. Castellano earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and a medical degree from the Emory School of Medicine.

Julie Simmons Ivy is the new chair of the department of industrial and operations engineering at the University of Michigan. Dr. Ivy has been a professor of industrial and systems engineering and a Fitts Faculty Fellow in Health Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University since 2007. Dr. Ivy’s research interests are in the mathematical modeling of stochastic dynamic systems with an emphasis on statistics and decision analysis as applied to health care, public health, and humanitarian logistics.

Professor Ivy holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan. She also earned a master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering with a focus on operations research at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Deborah Cohen, the Richard W. Leopold Professor of History in Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, has been named the interim executive director of the Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs. Dr. Cohen’s research areas are European history and global history. Her most recent book, Last Call at the Hotel Imperial: The Reporters Who Took on a World at War (Random House, 2023) won the Mark Lynton History Prize, the Goldsmith Prize, and the Ralph Waldo Emerson Prize. She taught at Brown University before joining the Northwestern faculty in 2010.

Dr. Cohen earned a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley.
