Southern University Shreveport Names Alumna Aubra Gantt to the Post of Chancellor

Alumna Aubra Gantt was selected as the next chancellor of Southern University Shreveport in Louisiana. The two-year campus enrolls just over 2,700 students, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 68 percent of the student body.

Dr. Gantt, a native of Shreveport, has more than 25 years of experience in postsecondary education. She has served in various state government, academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, and clinical behavioral and mental health positions. She currently serves as a clinician at various hospitals in Phoenix, Arizona.

Gantt began her professional educational career at Southern University Shreveport as an educational counselor. She later served as dean of enrollment management at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona and vice president for academic outreach and student success at the Tarrant County College campus in Fort Worth, Texas.

Dr. Gantt holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge. She earned a master’s degree in social work from Southern University at New Orleans and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of North Texas.

“It is good to be home,” said Dr. Gantt, a graduate of Green Oaks High School in Shreveport. “I am an alumnus of SUSLA, Southern University Baton Rouge, and Southern University at New Orleans. All of  my career success is because of the foundation laid for me by the Southern University educational system.”
