In Memoriam: Ann Oliva Boudreaux Metzinger, 1932-2022

Ann Metzinger, a long-time faculty member at Tulane University in New Orleans, died on May 6. She was 90 years old.

A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. Metzinger was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana. She held master’s degrees from Louisiana State University and the Tulane School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine. She earned a doctorate in international health from the Tulane School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine.

After working in a burn unit at a hospital in Houston, in 1967 Dr. Metzinger joined the faculty of the Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine with a dual appointment at the Tulane University School of Medicine in maternal-fetal health.

Dr. Metzinger taught and practiced internationally in Zaire, Colombia, and Haiti. She was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Global Health Award at the 100-year anniversary of the Tulane School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine.

Dr. Metziner taught courses in nutrition for 42 years at Tulane, before retiring and being named professor emerita.
