In Memoriam: Marilyn Faye Marek Schroer, 1956-2022

Marilyn Schroer, associate professor of psychology emerita at Newberry College in South Carolina, died on February 13. She was 66 years old.

A native of Garland, Texas, Dr. Schroer earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Texas A&M University and began her career as a school teacher. She went on to earn a master’s degree in educational psychology and a Ph.D. in educational psychology with concentrations in gifted and talented children and in school psychology from Texas A&M University. As a doctoral student. she served an internship was at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, working with gifted children who were diagnosed with learning and attention disorders.

Dr. Schroer taught for four years at the University of Texas at Arlington. After marrying, she moved to South Carolina and worked as a skills enhancement coordinator at Piedmont Technical College while raising a family. In 1999, she joined the psychology faculty at Newbury College and taught there for 20 years.
