Colleges and Universities Announce the Appointment of Eight Women to Administrative Positions

Julia Wang, a triple-board-certified specialist in emergency medicine, sports medicine, and lifestyle medicine, was appointed medical director for Student Wellness Services at the California Institute of Technology. She has worked at student health clinics at UCLA, Occidental College, Whittier College, and Los Angeles City College.

Dr. Wang is a graduate of Stanford University. She earned her medical degree at the University of California, San Diego.

Jennifer Cook has joined the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas as director of communications. She was the senior media relations and communications specialist for Mercy of Northwest Arkansas, a healthcare system.

Cook holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Andrea Sankey was named senior executive director of public affairs and external relations at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. She was director of development and outreach at Julia C. Hester House, a community center in Houston.

Sankey holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a post-graduate certificate in fund development from the Glasscock School at Rice University in Houston.

Lorri L. Saddler was promoted to vice president of alumni relations and engagement at Clark Atlanta University. She was associate vice president and dean of undergraduate admission at the university. Dr. Saddler earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel management from Howard University in Washington, D.C. She holds an MBA with a concentration in marketing and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Clark Atlanta University.

Lauren Broccoli Burgess was appointed director of government relations for the University of Rhode Island. She has been serving as assistant director of government relations for the American Veterinary Medical Association. Previously, she was a senior lobbyist and consultant at Lewis-Burke Associates from March 2014 to November 2019, serving as a senior policy expert on higher education, federal research, and federal appropriations.

Broccoli Burgess earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Boston University. She holds a juris doctorate from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Maurita N. Poole is the new director of the Newcomb Art Museum at Tulane University in New Orleans. She was the director and curator of the museum at Clark Atlanta University.

Dr. Poole earned a bachelor’s degree in Arabic and government from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She holds a doctorate in cultural anthropology from Emory University in Atlanta.

Hilary M. Hla was named associate director of counseling services at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She was a staff psychologist at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Dr. Hla is a graduate of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Brittany Straw is the new director of career services at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She was the assistant director of career services at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Straw earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in vocational-technical education from Arkansas State University.
