Five Women Faculty Members Who Have Been Hired to New Positions or Promoted to New Ranks

Cindy Crusto was recently promoted to professor of psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. She is the first African American woman full professor in the history of the department of psychiatry. Dr. Crusto came to Yale 22 years ago as a postdoctoral intern.

Dr. Crusto is a graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She holds a master’s degree in clinical/community psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Professor Crusto earned a Ph.D. in clinical/community psychology from the University of South Carolina.

Sharmistha Bagchi-Sen has been appointed director of the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at Arizona State University. She was a professor at the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York System and chaired the department of geography there from 2010 to 2016.

Dr. Bagchi-Sen received ar Ph.D. in geography and a certificate in global policy studies from the University of Georgia in 1989.

Abigail Killeen was promoted to professor of theater at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. She joined the faculty at Bowdoin in 2008.

Professor Killeen holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in acting from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and a master of fine arts degree from the Professional Actor Training Program at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Gloria Meredith was named Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Binghamton University in New York. She is the founding dean of the university’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Her research is focused on the study of Parkinson’s disease. Before coming to Binghamton University in 2015, Dr. Meredith taught at the Free University in Amsterdam, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and the University of Chicago.

Dr. Meredith holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She earned a Ph.D. at the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.

Eliana Perrin will soon join Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore as a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of primary care. She comes to Johns Hopkins from Duke University, where she was a professor of pediatrics, division chief for primary care pediatrics, program director for the National Clinician Scholars Program, and founder and director of the Duke Center for Childhood Obesity Research. She will hold primary appointments in the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing, as well as an appointment in the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Perrin earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and education from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and a medical doctorate at the University of Rochester in New York. She also holds a master of public health degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
