In Memoriam: Patti J. Shock, 1941-2019

Patti Shock, long-time faculty member at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, died on November 22. She was 78 years old.

Professor Shock grew up in Oakland, California. She earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant administration and a master’s degree in institutional administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Professor Shock began her academic career at Georgia State University. After 10 years on the faculty, she joined the faculty in the William F. Harrah College of Hospitality at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1988. She served as chair of the department of tourism and convention administration for 18 years.

After retiring from the faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2013, Professor Shock taught online courses for Southwest Minnesota State University, Kennesaw State University in Georgia, and Florida International University. She also served as an academic consultant to The International School of Hospitality.
