
In 1972, the National Association of Alcoholism Counselors and Trainers was established. Two years later the organization’s name was changed to the National Association of Addiction Counselors. In 1982, the name was changed once again to the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC). Due to the organization’s mission to address all forms of addiction, in 2001, the name was changed to NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals.
Dr. Sevening has taught at the University of South Dakota since 1982. She holds a bachelor’s degree in alcohol and drug abuse studies, a master’s degree in counseling, guidance and personnel services, and a doctorate in adult higher education, all from the University of South Dakota.
