In Memoriam: Juana Gamero de Coca, 1959-2017

Juana Gamero de CocaJuana Gamero de Coca, an associate professor of Spanish at Middlebury College in Vermont, died unexpectedly on October 6. This semester she was teaching courses entitled “Spain in the Globalized World,” and “Culture and Mental Illness.”

Dr. Gamero de Coca joined the faculty at Middlebury College in 2004 as a visiting professor. She was appointed an assistant professor in 2007 and was promoted and awarded tenure in 2012.

A native of Spain, Dr. Gamero de Coca’s scholarship was focused on twentieth and twenty-first century Spanish culture and literature with a focus on gender issues. She was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and held a master’s degree from New Mexico State University. Dr. Gamero de Coca earned a Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
