Website Ranks the Top College and University Computer Science Programs for Women

The website StudySoup.com, which bills itself as “A Student’s Guide to Success,” has published a ranking of the “Top Computer Science Programs for Women.” The website states that they came up with their rankings by examining the top-ranked U.S. universities for computer science to see which are also offering an inclusive environment for female students looking to enter into the industry.

Ranking first in the survey is Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California. StudySoup says that the college “has been a leader in creating a more inclusive environment for computer science students. The program’s professors worked to completely revamp the department, including creating a more collaborative curriculum.” More than 38 percent of the computer science majors at the college are women.

Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, ranked second. At Dartmouth, women are more than 35 percent of the computer science majors. StudySoup notes that “the college founded the Women in Science Project, which provides resources to women seeking a STEM career. The program offers support through mentorship, internship opportunities, and research experience.”

Ranking third in the survey is Harvard University. Harvard is praised for creating one of the “most active women in technology organizations: Harvard Women in Computer Science.” Women make up 34.1 percent of the computer science majors.

Also ranking in the top 10 computer science programs for women are Rice University in Houston, Pennsylvania State University, MIT, the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, the University of Southern California, Emory University in Atlanta, and Princeton University in New Jersey.
