Kristina Johnson Named the Thirteenth Chancellor of the State University of New York System

The new chancellor of the SUNY SystemThe board of trustees of the State University of New York has named Kristina M. Johnson as the thirteenth chancellor of the SUNY System. The SUNY system includes 64 campuses throughout the state and serves 600,000 students in degree programs and another 700,000 student in continuing education programs. Dr. Johnson will begin her new job in September.

Currently, Dr. Johnson is the chief executive officer of Cube Hydro Partners, which develops hydroelectric generation facilities. She served as under secretary of energy in the Obama administration. Earlier, Dr. Johnson was provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She is the former dean of the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. Dr. Johnson began her academic career serving on the faculty at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Dr. Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University. She holds 42 U.S. patents.
