Eight New Women Faculty Members at Colorado College

There are 11 new tenure or tenure-track faculty members at Colorado College in Colorado Springs this year. Eight of the new faculty hires are women.

Janet Burge is a new associate professor of mathematics and computer science. She was a tenured associate professor at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Earlier, she taught at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Dr. Burge is a graduate of Michigan Technical University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.

Jennifer Flores Garcia is a new assistant professor of molecular biology. Before joining the faculty at Colorado College, she was conducting postdoctoral research in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Colorado. Dr. Garcia is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, where she majored in chemistry and biochemistry. She earned a Ph.D. in genetics at the University of California, San Francisco.

Sara J. Hanson was hired as an assistant professor of archaeological anthropology. She was teaching in the department of sociology and anthropology at the University of Texas at Arlington. Dr. Hanson holds bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and biology from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. She earned a Ph.D. in genetics at the University of Iowa.

Amy Lee Kohout was named an assistant professor of history. She was a visiting assistant professor of environmental humanities at Davidson University in North Carolina. She is the editor of The Appendix, a journal of narrative and experimental history. Dr. Kohout is a graduate of Yale University, where she majored in history. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Katrina L. Miller-Stevens was appointed an assistant professor of economics and business. Since 2010, she had taught at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Miller-Stevens is a graduate of Colorado State University, where she majored in history. She earned a master’s degree in nonprofit management from Regis University in Denver and a Ph.D.  in public affairs from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Natanya Ann Pulley was named an assistant professor of English. Before joining the faculty at Colorado College, she taught for three years at the University of South Dakota. Dr. Pulley holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a Ph.D. in fiction writing from the University of Utah.

Dwanna Lynn Robertson is an assistant professor of race, ethnicity, and migration studies at Colorado College. Dr. Robertson is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma, where she majored in political science. She holds an MBA from East Tennessee State University, a master’s degree in sociology from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. in sociology and Native American Indian studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Karen E. Roybal is a new assistant professor of Southwest studies. Previously, she taught in the department of Chicana/o studies at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Roybal holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication and a Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Ne Mexico. She also earned a master’s degree in communication studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
