Middlebury College Grants Tenure to Four Women Faculty Members

Middlebury CollegeMiddlebury College, the prestigious liberal arts education institution in Vermont, has announced that it has granted tenure to six faculty members. Of these six tenure awards, four went to women.

Leticia Arroyo Abad was promoted to associate professor of economics and granted tenure. She joined the faculty at Middlebury College in 2009. A native of Argentina, Dr. Arroyo Abad is a graduate of Argentine Catholic University. She holds a master’s degree in Latin American studies from the University of Kansas and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Davis.

Marta Manrique-Gomez was named an associate professor of Spanish. She joined the faculty at the college in 2009. Dr. Manrique-Gomez is the editor of the book Madness, Love, and Tragedy in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Spain (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2013). Dr. Manrique-Gomez holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Hispanic studies from McGill University in Montreal.

Marybeth E. Nevins was appointed associate professor of anthropology and granted tenure. She joined the faculty at Middlebury College in 2013 after teaching for six years at the University of Nevada, Reno. Dr. Nevins is the author of Lessons From Fort Apache: Beyond Language Endangerment and Maintenance (Wiley-Blackwell, 2013). Dr. Nevins is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Virginia.

Linda E. White was promoted to associate professor of Japanese studies and granted tenure. She teaches courses in Japanese, women’s activism in Japan, and global Japanese culture. Dr. White joined the faculty at Middlebury as a visiting professor in 2005. She is a graduate of Michigan State University, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree in Asian studies from Cornell University and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Colorado.
