Lila Gierasch Named Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Biological Chemistry

Gierasch, LilaThe American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has announced that Lila Gierasch will be the next editor-in-chief of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the association’s flagship journal. Dr. Gierasch will begin a five-year term as editor-in-chief of the 110-year-old journal on July 1.

Dr. Gierasch is a Distinguished Professor in biochemistry and molecular biology and chemistry at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her research is focused on protein folding. Before joining the faculty at the University of Massachusetts in 1994, Dr. Gierasch taught at Amherst College, the University of Delaware, and the University of Texas. She is the former president of the Biophysical Society.

Professor Gierasch is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she majored in chemistry. She earned a ph.D. in biophysics at Harvard University.
