University of Virginia Scholar Wins Book Award

anna_brickhouse_0Anna Brickhouse, an associate professor of English at the University of Virginia, received one of two book prizes awarded by the journal Early American Literature. The journal is published by the University of North Carolina Press.

Dr. Brickhouse was honored for her book The Unsettlement of America: Translation, Interpretation, and the Story of Don Luis de Velasco, 1560-1945 (Oxford University Press, 2014). According to the prize announcement, the book “explores the phenomenon of motivated mistranslation to construct a speculative history of indigenous resistance to European colonization.”

Dr. Brickhouse is a graduate of the University of Virginia. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.
