Princeton University Adds Three Women Professors to Its Faculty

Princeton University in New Jersey has announced the hiring of six new full professors. Three of the new hires are women.

mcclintock_fullAnne McClintock was named full professor of gender and sexuality studies. She was the Simone de Beauvoir Professor of English and Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she served on the faculty since 1999. Earlier in her career Professor McClintock taught at Columbia University and the University of London. She is the author of Imperial Leather: Race, Gender, and Sexuality in the Colonial Context (Routledge, 1995). Dr. McClintock is a graduate of the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge in England and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.

ProfessorRustow_webMarina Rustow was hired as a full professor of Near Eastern studies and as a full professor of history. Since 2010, she has been an associate professor at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Dr. Rustow previously taught at Emory University in Atlanta. She is the author of Heresy and the Politics of Community: The Jews of the Fatimid Caliphate (Cornell University Press, 2008). Professor Rustow is a graduate of Yale University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.

anna.shieldsAnna Marshall Shields was appointed professor of East Asian studies. Since 2007, Dr. Shields has been an associate professor at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Earlier, she served on the faculty at the University of Arizona. Professor Shields is the author of One Who Knows Me: Friendship and Literary Culture in Mid-Tang China (Harvard University Asian Center, 2015). Dr. Shields is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a master’s degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Indiana University.
