In Memoriam: Charlotte Jirousek, 1938-2014

JirousekCharlotte Jirousek, an associate professor of textiles and apparel in Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology, died on February 12 in Ithaca, New York. She was 75 years old.

Dr. Jirousek’s research focused on the textiles and dress of Turkey. She also served as curator of the Cornell Costume and Textile Collection, which includes more than 9,000 items of apparel dating back to the 18th century. She was also serving as the editor of DRESS, the journal of the Costume Society of America.

A native of Faribault, Minnesota, Dr. Jirousek was a graduate of Hamline University in St. Paul. She earned a master’s degree in applied design and a Ph.D. in design, housing, and apparel at the University of Minnesota. Before joining the Cornell University faculty in 1992, she taught at the University of Alabama.
