Guillermina Gina Núñez-Mchiri Will Be the Next Leader of the Imperial Valley Campus of San Diego State University
Dr. Núñez-Mchiri, a native of Calexico, California, has been serving as an associate professor of anthropology at the University of Texas at El Paso. She began as a visiting assistant professor at UTEP, where she eventually gained tenure and became director of Women’s and Gender Studies.

In Memoriam: Diana Siedhoff Natalicio, 1939-2021
In 1988, Professor Natalicio was named president of the University of Texas at El Paso. She was the first woman to hold the position. She served in that role for 31 years until her retirement in 2019. Her 31-year tenure in the university’s highest office stood as the sixth-longest of any public doctoral/research university president in history at the time of her retirement.

Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson Named as the Next Leader of the University of Texas at El Paso
Since May 2017, Dr. Wilson has been Secretary of the United States Air Force. Earlier in her career, she was president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. From 1998 to 2009, Dr. Wilson served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New Mexico.

Trident University’s Leandra Hernandez Wins Two Awards From the National Communication Association
Leandra Hernandez, a professor in the College of Health and Human Services at Trident University in Cypress, California, received two awards for her scholarship at the annual conference of the National Communication Association that was held recently in Salt Lake City.

Carnegie Corporation of New York Honors Two Women University Presidents
Diana Natalicio of the University of Texas at El Paso and Patricia A. McGuire of Trinity Washington University are being honored for “demonstrating vision and outstanding commitment to excellence and equity in undergraduate education.”

Diana Natalicio Wins the 2013 Hesburgh Award for Leadership Excellence
The president of the University of Texas at El Paso, was honored by TIAA-CREF for leadership and commitment to higher education and contributions to the greater good. The honor comes with a $20,000 prize.
