For the First Time, the University of Michigan Is Naming an Academic Building for a Woman
For the first time in its history, the University of Michigan has named an academic building to honor a woman. The building that houses the Life Sciences Institute, a hub for bioscience research, will be known as Mary Sue Coleman Hall. Dr. Coleman was president of the university from 2002 to 2014.
University of Iowa Names Barbara J. Wilson as its Next President
Since 2016, Dr. Wilson has served as executive vice president and vice president for academic affairs for the University of Illinois System. Earlier at the University of Illinois, she served as the Harry E. Preble Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and as head of the department of communication.
In Memoriam: Frances Degen Horowitz, 1932-2021
Dr. Horowitz served as president of the Graduate Center of the City University of New York from 1991 to 2005. Earlier, Dr. Horowitz distinguished herself as a developmental psychologist and administrator at the University of Kansas.

Helen Damico was professor emerita of medieval language and literature at the University of New Mexico. A native of Greece, she taught at the university for 31 years.
Kristin Sobolik Is the New Chancellor of the University of Missouri-St. Louis
Dr. Sobolik has served as interim chancellor since last September. Before being named interim chancellor last fall, Dr. Sobolik served as provost and executive vice chancellor at the St. Louis campus since 2017. In 2013, she was appointed dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

Rachelle Karstens Appointed the Eleventh President of Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa
President Karstens came to Briar Cliff University in May 2017 as chief of staff to the university’s president. When the university’s president resigned two months later, Karstens was named interim president. She has now been appointed to the position on a permanent basis.
