In Memoriam: Sheila Tobias, 1935-2021
In 1967, Tobias she appointed assistant to the vice president for academic affairs at Cornell University. In 1970 she was named associate provost at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where she led efforts to transition the once all-male school into a coeducational institution. Tobias’ writings and research focused on women’s anxiety toward pursuing math and science fields.

Dr. Esterberg has been serving as president of the State University of New York at Potsdam. Prior to her term as SUNY Potsdam president, which began in 2014, Dr. Esterberg served as provost and academic vice president at Salem State University in Massachusetts and as deputy provost at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She will take on her new duties on October 1.

Professor Lurie joined the faculty at Cornell University in 1969, She was only the second woman to be awarded tenure. In 1989 she was named the F.J. Whiton Professor of American Literature. She retired from teaching in 2005.
