Study Finds Women Medical Students Publish Less Scholarly Research Than Their Male Peers
A new study led by Mytien Nguyen an M.D.-Ph.D. student at Yale School of Medicine found that there were only slight differences between men and women medical school students in research experiences. But women students had 10 percent fewer publications than their male peers.

Lisa Diamond is a distinguished professor of developmental psychology, health psychology, and gender studies at the University of Utah. She has taught at the university since 1999. Jane Bunker Has Been Chosen to Lead the Association of University Presses
Bunker became the director of the Cornell University Press in March 2020. She is the first woman to serve in this role since the press was founded in 1869. From 2010 to 2020, she was director of Northwestern University Press. She previously served as associate director and editor-in-chief at the State University of New York Press.

In Memoriam: Judith Lynn Bancroft Pipher, 1940-2022
Professor Pipher captured the first telescopic infrared pictures of starburst galaxies. She taught at the University of Rochester in New York from 1971 to 2002.

In Memoriam: Sheila McCarthy, 1942-2022
Dr. McCarthy taught Russian language and literature at Antioch College, Cornell, and Grinnell College, where she worked for 16 years and earned tenure. She then joined the faculty at Colby College in 1987 and taught there until her retirement in 2009.

In Memoriam: Linda Lopez McAlister, 1939-2021
Dr. McAlister first came to the Unversity of South Florida in 1982, After working for the state university system, she returned to the University of South Florida in 1987 as a professor of philosophy and women’s studies, specializing in feminist philosophy, the history of women in philosophy, and feminist film studies. She served as chair of the philosophy department from 1996 to her retirement in 1999.
Crystal Williams Will Be the Eighteenth President of the Rhode Island School of Design
President-elect Williams has been serving as a professor of English and vice president and associate provost for community & inclusion at Boston University. She began her academic career at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. She later served as associate vice president for strategic initiatives at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
East Carolina University Appoints Robin Coger as Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Dr. Coger is currently the dean of the College of Engineering and professor of mechanical engineering at North Carolina A&T State University. Before joining North Carolina A&T in 2011, Professor Coger was a faculty member in the department of mechanical engineering and engineering science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 1996 to 2011.

Suzanne Shontz is a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Kansas. Mesh generation — or meshing — is the mathematical and computational process of building items out of many shapes. Study Finds a Sharp Rise in Marijuana Use Among Pregnant Women
A new study, co-led by researchers from Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University, has captured the magnitude and issues related to cannabis use disorders during pregnancy. The study found that the proportion of hospitalized pregnant patients identified with cannabis use disorder – defined as cannabis use with clinically significant impairment or distress – rose 150 percent from 2010 to 2018.
