A Quarter of Women Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Faculty Positions

Beverly Gage has been appointed the John Lewis Gaddis Professorship of History at Yale University. She joined the Yale faculty in 2004. Earlier, this year Professor Gage was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in the biography category. She was honored for her book G-Man: J. Edgar Hoover and the Making of the American Century (Viking Books, 2022), a biography of former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

Professor Gage is a graduate of Yale University, where she majored in American studies. She earned a Ph.D. in history at Columbia University.

Arline Savage has been named the first Sallie W. Dean Endowed Professor of Accounting at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Collat School of Business. Dr. Savage was the Sallie W. Dean Faculty Fellow in Accounting at the university, before being named to the endowed professorship. She joined the university’s faculty in 2012.

Dr. Savage received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in accounting from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Tiffany Morris was named director of nursing and appointed the Clara Adams Endowed Professor in the John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University. She most recently served as associate professor and nursing department chair in the School of Health Sciences at Elon University in North Carolina.

Dr. Morris holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia. She earned a master’s degree in nursing, a master’s degree in education, and a doctor of nursing practice degree from Grand Canyon University.

Saonee Sarker was named the Richard E. Sorenson Dean of the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. She was a professor in the department of informatics in the School of Economics and Management at Lund University in Sweden. Previously, Dr. Sarker was at the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce from 2013 to 2021.

Dr. Sarker earned a bachelor’s degree from Lady Brabourne College of Calcutta University in India. She holds an MBA from the University of Cincinnati and a Ph.D. from Washington State University.
