Thirteen Women Who Have Been Appointed to Administrative Posts at Colleges and Universities

Carol E. Henderson has been named vice provost for diversity and inclusion, chief diversity officer, and advisor to the president at Emory University in Atlanta. She currently serves as vice provost for diversity at the University of Delaware.

Dr. Henderson is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree in English from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Riverside.

Rhae-Ann Booker has been named the inaugural vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Metro Health-University of Michigan Health. She was executive director of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Dr. Booker is a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she majored in sociology. She holds a master of social work degree and a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in evaluation from Western Michigan University.

Crystal Marceau has been named executive director of human resources at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York. She was manager of the human resources department at Collins Aerospace in Rome, New York.

Marceau is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oneonta, where she majored in business economics. She holds an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management in Illinois.

Denise Wingate Materre has been named vice president for alumnae relations at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She has over 20 years of experience as a consultant to for-profit, non-profit, and educational organizations. Her professional expertise focuses on developing women leaders, advancing diversity and inclusion, and helping to enhance and grow organizations.

Dr. Materre is a graduate of Smith College where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree in organizational behavior and counseling from the College of New Jersey and a doctorate in leadership and educational equity from the University of Colorado.

Samantha Tyler has been named human resources director of Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. She has been a member of the Evangel staff since 2016, serving as an HR coordinator, and a benefits/training and development specialist.

Tyler is a graduate of Evangel University where she majored in business administration. She will complete a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Evangel this fall.

Jeanine M. Minge has been named associate vice chancellor for community engagement at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She comes from California State University, Northridge where she has held several positions including director of community engagement, director of performance ensemble, director of graduate students, associate chair of the department of communication studies, and communication studies professor.

Dr. Minge is a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she majored in communication studies. She holds a master’s degree in communication studies from San Diego State University and a Ph.D. with a specialization in community-based art, nonprofit/university collaboration, and social justice from the University of South Florida.

Assata Zerai has been named vice president for equity and inclusion at the University of New Mexico. Currently, she serves as the associate provost for faculty excellence at the University of Illinois. She is the author of several books on equity and inclusion including Intersectionality in International Communities: The Struggle for Inclusivity (Lexington Books, 2016), Hypermasculinity and State Violence in Zimbabwe (Africa World Press, 2014), and African Women, ICT and Neoliberal Politics: The Challenge of Gendered Digital Divides to People-Centered Governance (Routledge, 2018).

Dr. Zerai is a graduate of Anderson University in Indiana, where she majored in sociology. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in sociology from the University of Chicago.

Paula Smith has been named director of intercollegiate athletics at the University of California, Irvine. She has been serving as interim director since July 2018 and has been the deputy director of intercollegiate athletics since 2012.

Smith is a graduate of New Mexico State University where she majored in marketing.

Anna McLeod has been named associate director for student services at Washington State University Everett. She has been an academic coordinator at WSU Everett since 2015.

McLeod holds a master’s degree in adult and higher education from Western Washington University.

Jennifer Mayer-Glenn has been named director of university neighborhood partners and special assistant to the president for campus-community partnerships at the University of Utah. She currently serves as director of family school collaboration for the Salt Lake City School District.

Mayer-Glenn is a graduate of the University of Utah where she majored in Spanish. She holds a master’s degree in education from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.

Emily Lehning has been named interim vice provost for enrollment management at Kansas State University. She currently serves as associate vice president for student life and director of new student services at the university.

Dr. Lehning holds three degrees from Kansas State University: a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, a master’s degree in college student personnel, and a Ph.D. in higher education administration.

Amy Dean has been named interim director of athletics at Ohio University. She has served as deputy athletic director since 2016 and has worked for the university since 1999.

Dean is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio. She holds a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University.

Laurie Koehler has been named vice president for marketing and enrollment strategy at Ithaca College. She currently serves as senior vice provost for enrollment and the student experience at George Washington University.

Koehler holds a bachelor of arts degree in rhetoric and communication studies and master’s degree in the social and philosophical foundations of education, both from the University of Virginia.
