Five Women Promoted to Full Professor at the College of the Holy Cross

HolyCrossSealColorThe College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, recently promoted six faculty members to the rank of full professor. Five of the six faculty members promoted to full professor are women.

english_maurerShawn Lisa Mauer was appointed professor of English. She has been on the faculty at the college since 2000. While at Holy Cross, she has served as director of the Honors Program in the English department and directed the women’s and gender studies program. Dr. Mauer is a graduate of Amherst College in Massachusetts and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. She is the author of Proposing Men: Dialectics of Gender and Class in the Eighteenth-Century English Periodical (Stanford University Press, 1998).

english_reynoldsPaige Reynolds was promoted to professor of English. She concentrates on modern Irish literature and twentieth-century British literature. She is the author of Modernism, Drama, and the Audience for Irish Spectacle (Cambridge University Press, 2007). Professor Reynolds joined the Holy Cross faculty in 2000. She is a graduate of Rice University in Houston, Texas, and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.

RobertsCatherine Roberts is a new full professor and chair of the department of mathematics and computer science at Holy Cross. She joined the college’s faculty in 2001. Professor Roberts is the editor-in-chief of the journal Natural Resource Modeling. Dr. Roberts is a graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine and holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University.

schaeffer_deniseDenise Schaeffer was promoted to full professor of political science. She has been on the college’s faculty since 1995. Professor Schaeffer holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political philosophy from Fordham University in New York. She is the co-author of a new translation and analysis of Plato’s Euthydemus (Focus Publishing, 2010).

yuhlStephanie Yuhl was named professor of history. Her research focuses on twentieth-century American history. She is the author of the award-winning book A Golden Haze of Memory: The Making of Historic Charleston (University of North Carolina Press, 2005). Professor Yuhl is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
