Daniela Elliott of Leeward Community College Honored by the American Association of Community Colleges

Daniela Elliott, an assistant professor and sustainable agriculture program coordinator at Leeward Community College in Honolulu, Hawai’i, received the Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition Award from the American Association of Community Colleges. The award recognizes faculty members who excel in their efforts to support students in and out of the classroom, show active participation in college committees, and whose passion drives them to go above and beyond what is required to ensure their student’s academic success.

Dr. Elliott has become known for her efforts to support students from the beginning of their enrollment, until they are ready to graduate, and beyond. Besides infusing her courses with valuable hands-on educational experiences, she was also able to transition seamlessly to online instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic, which earned her the college’s Excellence in Online Teaching Award in 2022.

Dr. Elliott earned a master’s degree in horticultural sciences at the University of Florida. She holds a Ph.D. in botany from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
