Colleges and Universities Appoint Seven Women to Administrative Posts

Aimee J. Vargas was named senior adviser to the dean for external affairs at the School of Social Work at New York University. Most recently, she served as vice president of community affairs and communications at Sands Inc. Earlier, she was director of the Mid-Hudson Region at the Empire State Development Corporation.

Vargas is a graduate of Syracuse University in New York, where she majored in communications. She holds a juris doctorate from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University in New York.

Alexis Travis is an assistant provost and executive director of the Health and Wellbeing Division at Michigan State University. She had served as senior deputy director for public health administration with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Travis earned a master’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Bradford in England. She holds a doctorate in public health from Walden University.

Erin Martin Kane has been appointed interim vice president for communications at the University of Rochester. She was associate vice president for marketing communications and donor engagement at the university. Before coming to the University of Rochester in 2015, Kane was associate vice president for public relations at Syracuse University.

Kane is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she majored in communications. She holds a master of public administration degree from Syracuse University.

Toni Monette is the new coordinator for volunteer and civic engagement programs at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She was a training officer at Nelnet, a student loan servicing company in Lincoln, Nebraska. She also served on the board of the League of Women Voters.

Monette holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master of public administration degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Charlene Widener was appointed vice president of educational services at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. She was vice president of academic affairs and student learning at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City.

Dr. Widerner holds a master’s degree in speech communication and theater from Kansas State University. She earned a doctorate in theater from the University of Missouri.

Hannah Weisman is the inaugural executive director of the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life at the University of California, Berkeley. Weisman most recently served as the director of education at the Boston Athenæum, an independent library in Boston that was founded in 1807.

Weisman is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she majored in German and Holocaust studies. She holds a master’s degree in museum studies from the State University of New York-Oneonta.

Angel Riotutar is the new director of the American Indian Resource Center on the campus of the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has been serving as a board member and a volunteer for several American Indian organizations.

Riotutar earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
