Universities Announced the Appointment of Two Women to Provost Positions

Mitzi M. Montoya was appointed provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Utah. She has been serving as a professor of management and dean of the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico. Earlier, Dr. Montoya was provost at Washington State University, dean of the College of Business at Oregon State University, and vice president and university dean of entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as dean of the College of Technology & Innovation at Arizona State University.

“I look forward to working together with the entire leadership team to build on the momentum and help the U achieve its goals,” Dr. Montoya said.

Dr. Montoya holds a bachelor’s degree in applied engineering and science and a Ph.D. in marketing and statistics both from Michigan State University.

Rebecca Kohn was appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Elon University in North Carolina, effective January 2. She has been serving as senior vice provost and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. She joined the faculty at Arcadia University in 2017.

“I am grateful and honored to join the Elon University community,” Dr. Kohn said. “The work I have prioritized throughout my career on developing innovative programs and enhancing the experiences of students, faculty members, and staff members resonates with the initiatives that Elon University is pursuing.”

Dr. Kohn is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, where she majored in biochemistry. She holds a Ph.D. in biology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
