Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Saint Catherine University, an educational institution for women in St. Paul Minnesota, received an $800,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help fund the university’s Advancing Scientific Excellence Initiative which will provide support for critical technology and equipment upgrades to the Mendel Building on campus. Becky Roloff, president of St. Catherine University said that “as one of only eight women’s institutions that is designated a minority-serving institution, this project will prepare a diverse pipeline of women for impactful scientific careers and meet the growing demand for female professionals in STEM fields locally and nationally.”

The College of Engineering and Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University has received a grant from the Center for Inclusive Computing (CIC) at Northeastern University to support their “Empowering Women for Careers in Computer Science” initiative. CIC is funded by Pivotal Ventures, a Melinda French Gates company, and has a mission to transform the national landscape of women in technology through grant funding at the undergraduate level, expert technical assistance by computing faculty, and meaningful data collection for diagnostic and evaluation purposes.

Savannah State University in Georgia received an $830,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education for a new modeling simulation program option within the computer science technology degree program. The program aims to increase the number of minority students and women in the computer science field.
