Five Women Faculty Members Who Are Taking on New Roles or Duties in Higher Education

Felicia Salinas-Moniz was promoted to director of the Sarah Doyle Center for Women and Gender at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She was the senior assistant director of the center. Dr. Salinas-Moniz is also an adjunct assistant professor in the department of American and ethnic studies at the university.

Dr. Salinas-Moniz is a graduate of San Jose State University in California. She earned a master’s degree in American civilization and a Ph.D. in American studies at Brown University.

Stephanie Miller, associate professor of psychology at the University of Mississippi, has been named the inaugural Provost Faculty Research Scholar for Institutional Transformation at the university. The new position supports the expansion of university efforts to build collaborative research teams equipped to write and submit external grants designed to increase institutional capacity in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Miller joined the faculty at the university in 2012.

Dr. Miller is a graduate of Stetson Univerity in DeLand, Florida. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Cassandra Volpe Horii is the new director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and associate vice provost for education at Stanford University. She was the assistant vice provost and founding director of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Outreach at the California Institute of Technology where she was a lecturer in engineering.

Dr. Horii is a graduate of the University of Colorado, where she majored in physics. She holds a Ph.D. in environmental science and atmospheric chemistry from Harvard University.

Julie E. Bauman was appointed director of the George Washington University Cancer Center. She will also serve as a professor of medicine in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She has been serving as a professor of medicine, chief of hematology/oncology, and medical director of oncology services at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

Dr. Bauman completed a dual MD/MPH degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.

Charlene Gilbert will join the Office of Academic Affairs at Ohio State University as senior vice provost of student academic excellence, effective April 4. She will also serve as a professor in the department of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Since 2017 Dr. Gilbert has been dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Toledo.

Dr. Gilbert received her bachelor’s degree from Yale University. She holds a master of fine arts degree from Temple University in Philadelphia and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska.
