Three Women Who Have Been Appointed to Diversity Positions at Major Universities

Tiffany Taylor Smith has been promoted to vice president for diversity and inclusion at the University of Dayton in Ohio, effective January 4. She has served as executive director for inclusive excellence education at the university since 2017.

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Rochester in New York. She holds a master’s degree in education, specializing in counseling services, from Fordham University in New York. Smith is now studying for a doctorate in education at the University of Dayton.

Jasmine Gurneau has been appointed director of Native American and Indigenous Affairs within the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Gurneau previously served as senior program coordinator and then manager of Native American and Indigenous Initiatives. She has been on the staff at the university since 2011.

Gurneau earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology at DePaul University in Chicago. She earned a master’s degree in learning sciences from Northwestern University.

Kiwana McClung has been named interim chief diversity officer at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. She is an associate professor in the School of Architecture and Design. McClung’s research interests include diversity in design education, the impact of design and spatial considerations in societies that are increasingly becoming multicultural, and equity concerns in communities that have been impacted by flooding. She joined the faculty at the university in 2013.

McClung earned a bachelor’s degree in arts and humanities from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She holds a master of architecture degree from Louisiana State University.
