Three Women Who Have Been Named to Dean Positions in Higher Education

Sujin Pak is the new dean of the Boston University School of Theology, the oldest United Methodist Church seminary in the United States. The school was established in Vermont in 1839 as the Newbury Biblical Institute. It relocated to New Hampshire and then, in 1867, to Boston. Dr. Pak was an associate professor of the history of Christianity and vice dean of academic affairs at the School of Divinity at Duke University in North Carolina. Her latest book is The Reformation of Prophecy: Early Modern Interpretations of the Prophet & Old Testament Prophecy (Oxford University Press, 2018).

Dr. Pak is a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta. She holds a master’s degree in theological studies and a Ph.D. in religion from Duke University.

Lynn Tomaszewski has been appointed chief academic officer and academic dean at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, effective July 1. Tomaszewski served as director of the School of Art + Art History in the College of the Arts at the University of Florida. Previous administrative experiences include serving as associate dean of graduate studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and chair of foundations at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design where she was also on the faculty for 16 years.

Tomaszewski holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in studio art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned a master of fine arts degree in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Linda S. Greene will be the inaugural dean of the Michigan State University College of Law. Professor Greene serves on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Law. She first joined the faculty there in 1989 and holds the Evjue-Bascom Professorship. From 1999 to 2004 she was the inaugural vice chancellor of equity, diversity, and inclusion at the University of California, San Diego. Professor Greene will begin her new job on June 1.

Professor Greene is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach. She earned a juris doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley.
