New Assignments in Higher Education for Six Women Faculty Members

Miriam Felton-Dansky, an associate professor of theater and performance at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, was given the added duties of director of the college’s undergraduate theater and undergraduate theater and performance program. She has served at the college since 2012. Dr. Felton-Dansky is the author of Viral Performance: Contagious Theaters from Modernism to the Digital Age (Northwestern University Press, 2018).

Dr. Felton-Dansky is a summa cum laude graduate of Barnard College in New York City, where she majored in history in theater. She holds a doctorate in fine arts from the Yale School of Drama.

Kyna Shelley, professor of educational research and administration, is the new associate director of the School of Education at the University of Southern Mississippi. She joined the university’s faculty in 2004 after working at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Dr. Shelley holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Anita Hazelwood, a professor of health information management and chair of the department of applied health in the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, has been appointed to a second term as chair of the Health Information Management Accreditation Council. She joined the University in 1976 as a laboratory assistant.

Dr. Hazelwood earned a bachelor’s degree and an educational doctorate at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. She also holds a master of library and information science degree from Louisiana State University.

Matilde Bombardini is a new associate professor of business and public policy at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on the organization of interest groups, lobbying, and the link between corporate philanthropy and firms’ political engagement.

Dr. Bombardini is a graduate of the University of Bologna in Italy. She earned a Ph.D. in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Filiz Garip was named professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton University. Since 2016, she has served as a professor and director of the Center for the Study of Economy and Society at Cornell University. Earlier, Dr. Garip served on the faculty of Harvard University from 2007 to 2016 2016. She is the author of On the Move: Changing Mechanisms of Mexico-U.S. Migration (Princeton University Press, 2016).

Professor Garip is a graduate of Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. Turkey. She earned a Ph.D. at Princeton University.

Ke Dong is a new professor of biology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She had served on the faculty at Michigan State University for the past 25 years. Her research is focused on understanding how insects develop defenses to pesticides.

Professor Dong earned a master’s degree in entomology at Zhejiang University in China. She holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
