In Memoriam: Marjorie Rosenthal, 1967-2020

Majorie Rosenthal, an associate professor of pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine, died on December 1. She was 53 years old and had suffered from colon cancer for seven years.

A native of Boston, Dr. Rosenthal grew up in Newton, Massachusetts. She graduated from Harvard/Radcliffe College with a degree in social studies and then received her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University. Later she earned a master of public health degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Rosenthal served as associate director of the National Clinician Scholars Program, where she led the program’s Community-Based Participatory Research Group, establishing ties between Yale Scholars and New Haven community-based organizations and stakeholders. Her academic research focused on identifying practical solutions to complicated community problems.

At the time of her death, she was completing work on her memoir relating her experiences as a mother, daughter, pediatrician, widow, and person living with metastatic cancer.
