California State University, Northridge Names Erika Beck as Its Next President

The California State University board of trustees has appointed Erika D. Beck to serve as president of California State University, Northridge. Dr. Beck will begin her new duties on January 11.

California State University, Northridge enrolls nearly 35,000 undergraduates and more than 5,000 graduate students, according to the most recent data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 55 percent of the undergraduate student body.

“From the robust academic programs to inspirational athletic competition to the expansive opportunities for arts and culture, I am inspired by the impact that California State Univerity, Northridge has in shaping the face of the San Fernando Valley and beyond,” said Dr. Beck. “I am thankful for this opportunity to join the talented faculty, staff, and students.”

In 2016, Dr. Beck was named the second president of California State University, Channel Islands in Camarillo. Previously, she was provost and executive vice president of Nevada State College in Henderson. Before becoming provost, she served as dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, chair of the Faculty Senate, and as a faculty member in the psychology department. Earlier in her career, Dr. Beck taught at the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Beck holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of California, San Diego. She earned a master’s degree in psychology at San Diego State University.
