Karen Kopera-Frye to Lead the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hawai’i, Hilo

Karen Kopera-Frye was named the next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hawaii, Hilo. She will begin her new job in December.

Dr. Kopera-Frye is currently a professor in public health sciences at New Mexico State University, a position she has held since fall 2016. She has also served as associate dean for academics, and associate dean for research in the College of Health and Social Services, from September 2016 to January 2019.

Earlier in her career, Professor Kopera-Frye served in a variety of academic leadership positions at the University of Akron in Ohio and the University of Nevada, Reno.

Dr. Kopera-Frye earned her a bachelor’s degree in psychology, as well as a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in developmental psychology all from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She also holds a master of public administration degree, with a minor in Native American studies.
