In Memoriam: Rose Mary Healy Dougherty, 1947-2020

Rose Mary Healy Dougherty, the former president of the White Plains, New York, campus of Berkeley College, died on July 20 after being infected with the COVID-19 virus. She was 73 years old.

Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College, said Healy Dougherty was a brilliant and gifted leader. “She was a friend and mentor to many Berkeley College administrators. Her wisdom, work ethic, and love of Berkeley will always be remembered with affection and gratitude.”

Dr. Healy Dougherty served as president of the White Plains campus of Berkeley College from 1991 to 1995. In January 1996, she was appointed senior vice president of academic affairs at Berkeley College in New York City. She was named provost in 2005, and from 2009 to 2017, she served as special assistant to the president.

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Healy Dougherty received her bachelor’s degree from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. She earned a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and a doctorate from the University of Toledo in Ohio.
