Wendy Cadge, a professor of sociology and women’s gender and sexuality studies at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, was named to a Barbara Mandel Professorship of Humanities and Humanistic Social Sciences. Professor Cadge is the author of several books including Paging God: Religion in the Halls of Medicine (University of Chicago Press, 2013).
Dr. Cadge is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, where she in majored in religion, sociology, and anthropology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Princeton University.
Penny Kris-Etherton, distinguished professor of nutrition in the College of Health and Human Development at Pennsylvania State University, was named an Evan Hughes Professor. Dr. Kris-Etherton is a past president of the National Lipid Association. Her research focuses on how nutrition can impact cardiovascular health.
Professor Kris-Etherton is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, where she majored in medical dietetics. She holds a master’s degree in nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Anna Shields was appointed the Gordon Wu ’58 Professor of Chinese Studies at Princeton University in New Jersey. She specializes in classical Chinese literature of the Tang, Five Dynasties, and Northern Song eras. Dr. Shields is the author of One Who Knows Me: Friendship and Literary Culture in Mid-Tang China (Harvard University Asian Center, 2015).
Professor Shields is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where she majored in French and comparative literature. She holds a master’s degree in East Asian studies from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Chinese from Indiana University.
Susan Madsen, founder of the Utah Women & Leadership Project, has been appointed the inaugural Karen Haight Huntsman Endowed Professor of Leadership at Utah State University’s Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. She was the Orin R. Woodbury Professor of Leadership and Ethics at Utah Valley University. Her latest book is The Handbook of Research on Gender and Leadership (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2017).
Dr. Madsen received her doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota in work, community, and family education.
