Ten Women Who Have Been Appointed to New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

Amanda Butrum was appointed interim director of the Accessibility Resource Center at the University of New Mexico. She has been on the staff at the university since 2005 and was the associate director of the Accessibility Resource Center.

Butrum holds a master’s degree in social sciences from California State University, San Bernardino.

Rhonda Moses was named associate vice president for enrollment management at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, effective July 1. She has been serving as dean of enrollment management at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Moses earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in education administration at the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York. She holds a Ph.D. in higher education from Capella University.

Amy Heasley Williams was appointed director of athletics at the College of Wooster in Ohio. She has been serving as associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Kenyon College in Ohio. Prior to her elevation to associate athletic director in 2017, she spent nearly a decade as assistant athletic director and coached both men’s and women’s swimming.

Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kenyon College and a master’s degree in American studies from Trinity College.

Brigitte Weinsteiger was named associate vice provost for collections and scholarly communications at the University of Pennsylvania Libraries. Weinsteiger’s prior leadership roles at the Penn Libraries include associate University librarian for collections and assistant University librarian for collections and liaison services. She began her career in libraries, working in archival processing at the Eberly Family Special Collections Library at Pennsylvania State University. Weinsteiger then joined the staff of Penn’s Biddle Law Library. Before moving into Penn Libraries’ administration in 2016.

Weinsteiger holds a master’s degree in medieval studies from the University of Pennsylvania, a master of library and information science degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and two bachelor’s degrees from Pennsylvania State University, where she concentrated in medieval studies, the history of art, and German literature.

Camille Edwards is the new public health workforce and community engagement director for the department of population and public health sciences in the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State Univerity in Dayton, Ohio. Edwards previously worked in roles at Indianapolis Healthy Start, Indiana Minority Health Coalition, and Powerful Health.

Edwards is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis.

Karen Bowling was hired as the inaugural vice president of jobs at the University of North Florida. Since 2018, Bowling has served as the director of the university’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Prior to joining UNF, Bowling served as president of Thrive Consulting.

Bowling is a graduate of the University of North Florida, where she majored in literature and communication.

Alexis Macklin was recently appointed associate dean of the Wayne State University Library System in Detroit. She led a team that developed a strategic plan for libraries across Purdue University’s three campuses in Indiana. Previous to her role at Purdue, Dr. Macklin served in library leadership positions at the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh and at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Dr. Macklin is a graduate of Chatham University in Pittsburgh, where she majored in English. She holds a master of library and information science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in the curriculum and instruction from Purdue University.

Mónica Ramírez-Montagut was appointed director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, effective July 1. She has been serving as the director of the Newcomb Art Museum at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Dr. Ramírez-Montagut has lived in the United States since 2002. She earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and her master’s and doctoral degrees in architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.

Mj Huebner will join the staff at Kalamazoo College in Michigan as the new vice president for admission and financial aid. She has been serving as interim vice president of enrollment management at the University of Texas Permian Basin. She will begin her new role on September 8.

Huebner is a graduate of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Earlier in her career, she held admission and enrollment management posts at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana.

Ruth A. Johnston, vice chancellor and strategic chief financial officer for the New Mexico State University System, was elected president of the Western Association of College and University Business Officers. She began her tenure at New Mexico State University in September 2019, after serving most of her career at the University of Washington.

Dr. Johnston holds a bachelor’s degree in counseling psychology/social sciences from the University of Redlands in California. She earned a master’s degree in human relations from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and a Ph.D. in organization development and higher education from the Union Institute in Cincinnati.
