Three Women Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed University Chairs

The College of Arts & Sciences at the Univesity of South Dakota has named Sandy McKeown, an associate professor and director of the Criminal Justice Studies Program, as the first recipient of the newly formed Blair & Linda Tremere Professorship in the Arts & Sciences. She joined the Criminal Justice Studies Program in 2006 after serving as a judicial clerk in South Dakota’s Supreme Court and as a deputy public defender in Minnehaha County.

McKeown holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a law degree from the University of South Dakota.

Kathryn Edin has been named the William Church Osborn Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University in New Jersey. She joined the faculty in 2017 after teaching at Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Northwestern University.

Professor Edin is a graduate of North Park University in Chicago, where she majored in sociology. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Northwestern University.

Brandy Faulkner, assistant professor in the department of political science in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech, has been named the Gloria D. Smith Professor of Black Studies at the university. A member of the Virginia Tech community since 2012, Faulkner’s scholarship has focused on constitutional and administrative law, race and public policy, and critical organization theory.

Dr. Faulkner is a graduate of Averett University in Danville, Virginia, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree from the Univerity of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Ph.D. in public administration and policy from Virginia Tech.
