Katherine Douglas Is the New Leader of Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York

The State University of New York Board of Trustees appointed Katherine P. Douglas, as interim president of Monroe Community College in Rochester. Her appointment will continue for approximately 12 to 18 months while the college conducts a nationwide search for its permanent president.

Monroe Community College enrolls more than 12,000 students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 53 percent of the student body.

In a statement announcing her appointment, Dr. Douglas said: “I have observed the impact of MCC’s innovative programs and leadership at national, state, and regional levels. I look forward to joining you and celebrating the success of all who work and learn at MCC.”

Dr. Douglas has worked in community college education for more than 40 years and was most recently president at Corning Community College in Steuben County, New York. She retired in June 2019 after eight years as president of that college. Earlier, she served as vice president of academic affairs at Sussex County Community College in Newton, New Jersey.

Dr. Douglas holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and an educational doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
