In Memoriam: Steveda Chepko, 1949-2020

Steveda “Stevie” Chepko, assistant dean of the College of Education at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, died on February 3. She was 70 years old.

Dr. Chepko was appointed assistant dean at the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2017. Earlier, Dr., Chekpo served as chair of the department of physical education, sport and human performance at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Dr. Chepko was an expert on performance-based standards and assessment for physical education curriculums in K-12 schools. She served as chair of the task force that revised the National Standards for Initial Physical Education Teacher Education.

A graduate of West Virginia University, where she majored in physical education. Dr. Chepko earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction and sport history at Temple University in Philadelphia.
