Columbia College in South Carolina to Admit Men to Residential Programs for the First Time

Last week, WIAReport published a post on the decision of Converse College, a liberal arts educational institution for women in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to admit men to its undergraduate residential programs for the first time in 2021. Now a second women’s college in South Carolina has announced that it too will admit men to its undergraduate residential programs.

Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina, has announced that or the first time in the school’s 166-year history, it will allow men to enroll as residential students. However, the college states that it hopes to offer two tracks, one for just women and one that will be co-educational. The college hopes to offer class sections that will only be open to women.

In 2018, the college has total enrollments of about 1,250 students. This included nearly 300 men who were enrolled in evening, online, and graduate courses.

“We are excited about the possibility of making Columbia College a place that can accommodate all students in the future,” said Toby Goodlett, chair of the board of trustees at the college. “With our rich history, our quest is to always provide learning opportunities that prepare students for a successful future.”
