A Trio of Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Dean Positions at Universities

Nicoleta Bugnariu was appointed dean of the new School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. Dr. Bugnariu is vice provost of community engagement and service for the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas. She will begin her new duties at the University of the Pacific on June 1.

Dr. Bugnaria holds a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Ottawa in Canada.

Dori Borjesson will be the next dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University. She will begin her new job on July 20. Currently, Dr. Borjesson is chair of the department of pathology, microbiology, and immunology at the University of California Davis’ School of Veterinary Medicine. Earlier, she served on the faculty at the University of Minnesota.

Professor Borjesson is a 1988 graduate of Colorado College. She holds a master’s degree, a doctor of veterinary medicine degree, and a Ph.D. in comparative pathology, all from the University of California, Davis.

Patricia J. Culligan has been appointed the Matthew H. McCloskey Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. She will begin her new job on August 1. Dr. Culligan is currently the chair and Carleton Professor of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Culligan’s research focuses on sustainable urban infrastructure, social networks and the application of advanced measurement and sensing technologies to improve water, energy and environmental management.

Professor Culligan earned her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Leeds in England. She earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in engineering from the University of Cambridge.
